The one thing I wish I’d known before my first class is that students don’t expect you to be perfect. I walked in thinking I had to deliver some flawless, TED‑Talk‑level lesson, and of course it didn’t go that way. Half the class was shy, the other half was too energetic, and I forgot half of what I’d planned.

What actually saved me was just slowing down, talking to them like normal people, and not pretending I had everything under control. Once I relaxed a bit, they relaxed too, and the whole atmosphere changed.

So yeah — if I could go back, I’d tell myself: “Stop overthinking it. They just want someone who’s present, friendly, and actually listening.”
